June 2016 – Letter from the President

Places to come together, feel welcome, and be treated with respect. That’s what so many of your businesses are. In the atmosphere you create, the personal connection you offer through services, quality customer care, in the commitment to create and sell products of value, local businesses and organizations define success by so much more than just money. In achieving this prosperity, you are building foundations for your families and community. We may have different ideas of what that means, but do so with passion and drive.

The shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando hits us all in different ways. Some of us feel it very deeply and for distinct reasons. The way it resonates with us is strongly tied to the identities and beliefs we carry. These identiftes and beliefs are also very likely what drive us to do the work that we do. There are times when our identities and beliefs are challenged or even rocked to the core. How we respond, how we come together, and how we open ourselves to each other and each other’s communities is what will shape our local community and our world.

This is a time of reflection and mourning. It is also a time of building. A time to find ways that we can understand, connect, and intersect with one another. For MetroIBA, this is also a time of continued celebration. In May, we honored local businesses, citizens, and organizations committed to making our metro area stronger. Each nominee, each finalist, each winner represents what it means to be invested in our local business community. The gifted, passionate, successful 2016 winners are listed below. We will share more about these businesses and individuals in the coming months.
